Hamleys, the world’s most famous toy shop, is opening a mini replica store in Legoland Windsor’s Miniland London area. The replica Hamleys, based on the famous flagship toy store, will open be officially opened at 10:30am on Wednesday 6th August.
The Hamleys replica model is 1.5m long and 1m tall. It contains 7,500 individual Lego bricks and took approximately 120 hours to complete. It has been built to an approximate scale of 1:30. The model features the Regent Street store’s striking red window awnings, fun packed window displays and Hamleys logos and flags. It has been constructed featuring fibre optic lighting to bring the store to life at Legoland’s night time events. The windows, shop floors and shop signage are all carefully illuminated along with various uplit architectural details; so it looks just like the real shop!
Miniland London is one of Legoland Windsor’s most spectacular attractions and the biggest ‘cluster’ ever created for the park (covering a massive surface area of 330m²). The London skyline features Lego brick replicas of the following: City Hall, the Lloyd’s Building, the three Canary Wharf towers, the Gherkin, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, Oxford Street, Millennium Bridge, Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the BT Tower, Docklands Light Railway, Piccadilly Circus and Waterloo Station.
It is estimated that over 13 millions Lego bricks have been used in the construction of Miniland London and it took a staggering 24,000 hours to create.
Charlotte Chisnall, Hamleys head of press & pr, says: This is an exciting time for Hamleys as we embark on a global expansion programme. And where better for us to be than Legoland Windsor’s Miniland London! We’re delighted to be featured in such a fabulous UK attraction and alongside tourist destinations such as the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. Guy Bagley, chief model maker at Legoland Windsor comments:
We’re thrilled to add Hamleys, another famous landmark, to our Miniland London area. Children are always excited and absolutely amazed when they visit for a day out at Legoland. It’s that same sense of wonder and awe they experience when they step inside a magical toy store like Hamleys, so there’s definitely a natural synergy between the two companies. Our latest addition to Miniland is certain to prove popular with families and showcases the fantastic models you can create just using your imagination and standard Lego bricks!
