Thorpe Park add The Walking Dead: The Ride

Thorpe Park Resort has now announced The Walking Dead: The Ride, the world’s first roller coaster themed around the global TV phenomenon, to open this Easter.

The Walking Dead: The Ride is the latest new attraction for the Surrey based theme park and replaces previous ride X.

X originally opened at Thorpe Park in 1996 as X:\ No Way Out. The Vekoma ride was at that time the world’s first backwards roller coaster in the dark. It became simply X in 2013 when the trains were changed to run forwards and new music and lights were added.

The exclusive immersive and terrifying experience comes complete with state of the art special effects, a replica of the iconic watch tower, and will be the ultimate test of riders’ mettle.

As the UK’s first and only multi-sensory and multi-part roller coaster, the experience invites thrill seekers to flee The Walking Dead in a relentless and terrifying ride for survival.

Travelling through the deepest, darkest tunnels, it will feature extensive and realistic theming to bring some of the most compelling and gruesome scenes from all seasons of The Walking Dead to life.

The roller coaster is at the centre of The Year of The Walking Dead, an unmissable series of events at Thorpe Park in 2018:

  • The Walking Dead: Living Nightmare Extreme – the live action horror maze at its most terrifying, available only for May Half Term (25th May – 3rd June)
  • Apocalypse Weekends – select weekends in May and June, details to be confirmed
  • Summer Lates – opening until 10pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 26th July – 1st September
  • Zombie Hunt – an extreme battle for survival in woodland on the outskirts of Thorpe Park for the six weeks of summer (21st July – 3rd September)
