Review of Drayton Manor Fireworks 2015

Drayton Manor is ending its 65th anniversary season with a War of the Worlds Fireworks Spectacular on Fri 30th October, Sat 31st October and Sun 1st November.

ThemeParks-UK attended the opening night to see how this brilliant science fiction novel and album would be brought to life at the UK's largest family owned park.

Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds – The New Generation has a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes so for the purposes of the Fireworks Spectacular at Drayton Manor it has been cut down to 25 minutes of the best bits, which is still an impressive length for such a display.

Fantastic Fireworks, the winners of the 2015 British Fireworks Championship, have put together a stunning display of pyrotechnics with lots of variety and perfectly synchronized to the music.

The display uses a combination of fireworks, smoke, lasers, fire and a water projection screen with visuals used at the live arena tour featuring Liam Neeson.

Rather than utilising the well themed Tripod featured in the live arena tour, the display at Drayton Manor has a laser projector sitting atop three lighting towers to represent the Martian's fighting machine.

The display takes place in and around the lake at the centre of the theme park and as the event is exceptionally popular we recommended getting your viewing position early, because there aren't many locations to get an unobstructed view of all the elements.

After the display we enjoyed the opportunity to ride some of the theme park's rides in the dark, including the UK's only stand-up roller coaster Shockwave and the impressive gyro swing ride Maelstrom.

War of the World Fireworks Spectacular continues on Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November, with the park open 9.30am-9pm and the fireworks spectacular at 7pm on both days, so don't miss out on your chance to experience this unique display.
