Review: FEAR at Avon Valley Scream Park 2019

We were at the opening weekend of FEAR at Avon Valley Scream Park, crowned the UK's Best Scream Park at the SCAR Awards 2019.

The award winning event consists of 4 returning scare attractions: Phobia: Rebirth, Anarchy: Live, X4 and House of Clowns. New for 2019, a brand new horror experience, V I T A N O V A.

In addition to the scare mazes the event includes interactive shooting experience KILLZONE, street theatre, a fire show, games, fairground rides, food and bars.

  • V I T A N O V A (New for 2019) - The world is changing... You must conform... You must participate. Be warned, this is an EXTREME experience. You will be separated, you will be confined, you will crawl through tunnels, and you are likely get an actual electric shock! A highlight of the event that pushes boundaries and uses a wide variety of techniques to set your heart racing. The sets, effects, costumes and acting are all of a very high standard, but very importantly there is a clear and compelling narrative.

  • Phobia: Rebirth - Enter the Phobia Research Facility to face your worst fears. Each section begins at the funeral of a recently deceased person, and then you step into a simulation of how they died. This could be drowning at sea, or catching on fire in a burning building. The experience begins with being shut in a coffin which is a brilliant start. Although the scenes are disturbing the scares are minimal.

  • Anarchy: Live - The newest season of Anarchy: Live is set to roll before the cameras, and you will be the star of the show! Enter the arena as contestants in this brutal game of cat and mouse, and pray you make it out alive. The ultimate fight for survival begins now. By entering as a pair, we were instructed to hold hands throughout and never let go. We were released into a gauntlet to be hunted with characters trying to force us apart, but we held on tight and managed to escape together.

  • X4 - Descend to a complex series of subterranean tunnels hidden deep underground, via an elevator ride like no other. Once there you will uncover the secrets that lie within. It's a fast paced, intense and detailed scare maze. The inclusion of a pre-show greatly enhanced this attraction, because with the context provided and an atmosphere created, it was then a much more immersive experience.

  • House of Clowns - Step inside a world of creepy clowns. It starts as a classic curtain maze but it's followed by an intense smoke and strobe section, with other elements of fun house and carnival. It's a fairly standard maze, but it still works well if you are scared of clowns.

  • KILLZONE - For an extra £5 who can take part in the Republic of England Rebels Training. Armed with a machine gun, you enter a firing range for target practice. In this 5-10 minute activity, you get the opportunity to shoot moving targets... actual people! These weapons fire pellets at the 'infected' that have escaped from V I T A N O V A.

We were guests of the attraction for the purposes of this review.

FEAR at Avon Valley Scream Park continues on selected dates until 2nd November 2019, and most of the nights are expected to sell out, so book in advance at www.fearscreampark.co.uk
