Review: Fear Island 2019

We were invited to Fantasy Island for the Fear Island preview evening on Friday 11th October 2019, including an exclusive first performance of Circus of Screams.

Now in its third year, this fantastic event features an all-new lineup of four scare mazes, three themed areas and two live shows.

Fantasy Island is an indoor and outdoor theme park located on the coast near Skegness, with impressive roller coasters The Millennium and The Odyssey.

Rediscovered in October 2017, the island known as ‘Fear’ emerged from an eternal mist, and is steeped in mystery, forever cursed…

Ancient legend tells of the monstrous and mysterious inhabitants that frequent Fear Island, as they invite the living to visit their realm each October…

Following a drinks reception we enjoyed the Circus of Screams 2019 debut with entertaining performances by an enthusiastic cast.

This special live show was a mixture of the family friendly acts that guests will enjoy several times every day during the event, with some highlights of the 'adult show' that will take place on Friday evenings and is suitable for those aged 16+ only.

Expect impressive aerial acts, a generous helping of slapstick comedy, musical routines, lots of fire and some gross-out abilities.

The four scare mazes at Fear Island, all new for 2019:

DisturbIAM - Where insanity meets science in a disturbing medical nightmare… Inside, crazed patients will welcome you into their unethical world of madness and delusion. There are some shocking scenes and a great use of effects. You may even get wet!

Torchure - With only a candle to light your path, venture into the dungeons and catacombs below the park. The level of threat is maximised by the intensity of the live actors, who take advantage of the extremely low light levels in this attraction. Don't be surprised if you find yourself being locked in a cage by the dungeon master.

Psycho Vault - A labyrinth hidden beneath the former Psycho Mansion has been uncovered, the hideout of infamous serial killer Edward Slice and his band of murderous cohorts – the Psycho Vault has been breached, and you are its latest victim! You will be crawling on your hands and knees in the longest and most effective tunnel section we've experienced in a scare maze. The dramatic finale will have you running out screaming!

The House of Voodoo - Take a detour from Voodoo Bay to discover the secrets of a long-forgotten bayou. Tread carefully as you navigate the misty rivers and walkways of this eerie underworld, but keep your wits about you – who knows what is lurking in the fog! This scare maze requires you to where a hood over your head for part of the experience, with nothing but a rope to guide you. Prepare to be separated from the others in your group during a warren of passageways.

All four attractions are story driven experiences with excellent acting, costumes and makeup. Each of the key scenes have detailed sets, which are interspersed with dark and narrow maze sections. A variety of effects are used throughout the attractions, including light, sound and smoke. They are designed to provide 'scary fun' so they are not recommended for children under the age of 12.

Fantasy Island has created three main themed areas for this year's event, with the decorated spaces in front of both DisturbIAM and Psycho Vault, plus the large flame-lit Voodoo Bay with food and beverage outlets where The House of Voodoo is located. There are other Halloween decorations and photo opportunities scattered throughout the park.

On the upper lever of the pyramid, families can enjoy the lively Wicked Witches Show where you can celebrate the spooky season with the wicked witches Wilamena, Wanda and Winnie as they stir up a spell in an interactive family stage show. There's also a special Halloween projection mapping show on the Mystical Mountain twice a day.

Fear Island continues every Wednesday - Sunday until 3rd November 2019 - don't miss out on this fantastic event! Find out more and buy your wristbands at www.fantasyislandresort.co.uk
