New roller coaster Project Exodus at Thorpe Park approved

Plans for a new £18 million roller coaster at Thorpe Park have been approved, with the ride set to open in 2024.

Last month, Runnymede Borough Council announced that plans for the new roller coaster had been given the green light, but it would still be subject to a potential review by the Secretary of State.

Today it was confirmed that the Secretary of State has decided not to call in the application and is allowing the local planning authority to determine the project - which means that it is now clear to proceed.

Project Exodus will be the UK's tallest roller coaster, with a height of 236 feet (72 metres). It will be the first roller coaster to open at Thorpe Park since The Swarm in 2012.

It will be located in the area of the park currently known as Old Town, in the space previously occupied by the Logger's Leap log flume and the Canada Creek Railway.
