New thrill ride Extinction opens at Blackgang Chine

The UK’s oldest amusement park, Blackgang Chine, has opened their new 360-degree rotation ride, Extinction.

Extinction is a new pendulum swing that reaches a height of 18 metres, almost double that of the famous Blackgang Smuggler, and equal to four double decker buses.

Due to the unique coastal location set back from the Isle of Wight’s cliff edge, the positioning of Extinction offers guests an unforgettable experience with it’s unparalleled views. The ride is a marker for a new era at Blackgang Chine, as the largest of the rides within the park, and it is a thrilling addition to their well-loved lineup.

The new attraction throws its passengers through full 360-degree vertical rotations, creating the sensation that you’re about to be catapulted off the cliff edge and into the sea. Riders will have the chance to take in the breath-taking views across the English Channel, which they can enjoy in the brief moments between screaming.

Extinction was designed and built by Zamperla, a leading manufacturer of amusement rides based in Italy.

Dominic Wray, Park Director at Blackgang Chine, said:

“This is not just any ride – it’s a testament to Blackgang Chine’s ability to innovate and provide visitors with unforgettable experiences. Our rich and long heritage is a result of our commitment to pushing boundaries and staying ahead of the curve. This is especially vital in the current climate where we have a cost-of-living crisis in the UK and the travel industry is still in a period of recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.”
