New Coaster and Other Upgrades: Barry Island Pleasure Park Gears Up for Bumper Summer

Barry Island Pleasure Park in Wales is set for its biggest summer yet, with park owner Henry Danter confirming the arrival of several new attractions, including a brand-new roller coaster and a long-awaited upgrade to a theme park classic.

As one of Wales' most iconic seaside destinations, the family-run amusement park has undergone a massive transformation over the last decade. For 2026, the Danter family is continuing their £12 million investment program, introducing new experiences designed to bridge the gap between "mini-thrill seekers" and seasoned adrenaline junkies.

Caterpillar Coaster

The most significant addition for the 2026 season is the Caterpillar Coaster. This new family coaster is designed as an "entry-level" thrill, allowing younger children to experience their first coaster drops alongside their parents.

The ride joined the park’s lineup following a successful soft-opening period during the February half-term. It serves as a perfect companion to the park's existing "big hitters," offering a slower-paced but fun experience for families with children who aren't quite ready for the G-forces of the more intense machines.

Bumper Cars

After significant delays caused by global supply chain issues and rising steel prices, a brand-new Bumper Cars (Dodgems) attraction is finally set to make its debut. This updated version of the fairground classic features modern ride technology and a fresh lighting package.

These new additions will sit alongside the park's crown jewel, Aerospace. Standing at a staggering 65 metres (215 feet) tall and reaching speeds of 75mph, Aerospace remains the tallest and fastest ride of its kind in the UK, drawing thrill seekers from across the country to the Whitmore Bay seafront.

The park has teased that its "biggest improvement yet" will be revealed later this year, with fans speculating on a major new attraction.
