David Walliams outside Gangsta Granny: The Ride

Alton Towers Resort has confirmed the immediate, permanent closure of The World of David Walliams themed area.

The announcement was confirmed on the resort’s official website with a brief statement:

“The World Of David Walliams will be permanently closed from Tuesday November 3 2026.

“As we are no longer in the main season, guests are encouraged to check the Alton Towers Resort website and app for the latest attraction opening information ahead of their visit.”

A spokesperson for park operator Merlin Entertainments added further context:

“As the 2026 peak season at Alton Towers Resort comes to an end and following our regular review of rides and attractions across the resort, we have taken the decision to permanently close the World Of David Walliams.”

Five Years At The Resort

The land originally opened in May 2021 following a retheme of Cloud Cuckoo Land. Designed primarily for younger children and families, the area featured several attractions based on the popular children's books:

  • Gangsta Granny: The Ride – a dark ride through the crown jewels heist.
  • Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp – a small drop tower attraction.
  • The Royal Carousel – a traditional family carousel.
  • Flavio's Fabulous Fandango – a spinning family ride.

All rides within the area have now been withdrawn from service.

What Lies Ahead For The Area?

The former Cloud Cuckoo Land and Cred Street themed area has undergone several transformations over the decades, and previously housed rides and attractions such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Ride, Twirling Toadstool, and Wobble World.

Merlin Entertainments has stated that plans for the future use of the site will be communicated in due course once confirmed.
