Details for a new Halloween scare event at Clacton Pier have been unveiled, with an early bird discount available for those booking before the end of the month.
Clacton FEAR is a terrifying new experience set to run for seven nights this October. The event will feature two live action scare mazes located inside the historic Jolly Roger, taking guests onto the upper floor of the 1893 structure for the first time in nearly 50 years. A separate scare zone will also be staged outside on the pier.
A Night of Scares and Thrills
Running from 6pm until late, the event promises rides in the dark, a host of live entertainment, and various food and drink options. The project brings together a team of industry experts, including creatives behind award winning events at Merlin Entertainments theme parks.
Tickets are priced at £30, which includes access to all scare attractions and unlimited thrill rides. However, thrill seekers can take advantage of a £25 early bird offer available until the 31st of August.
Pier general manager Harry Peek confirmed that work is well underway inside the Jolly Roger.
"This event has been in the planning for three years to ensure we get it right and there has been nothing quite like it on the pier before," Peek stated. "We staged Evil on Sea in 2019 but Clacton FEAR will be on a much bigger scale and is one not to be missed. Come along with friends and family and face your FEAR."
Immersive Scare Mazes and Zones
The event will feature three distinct horror attractions:
- Laughing Gas: Toxic Circus: Set in 1933, this maze explores the fateful night the Jolly Roger Theatre prepared to host Cecil P. Cranbourne's travelling circus. A boiler room explosion released toxic gas, leaving everyone inside missing. Now unsealed after nearly a century, guests can discover what truly happened.
- Mourning Manor Hotel: This crumbling property fell into decay following the death of Mr Grady, yet his widow refuses to close the doors. She continues to welcome new guests, although nobody ever seems to check out.
- Mullins and Sons: DEADWOOD: An outdoor scare zone featuring a family of lumberjacks initially hired to complete a timber decking project. The unfinished worksite is now their territory, and the family has found much more sinister uses for their chainsaws.
Supernatural Secrets
Clacton FEAR will take place on the 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th, and 31st of October 2026.
Peek also noted that the Jolly Roger was recently investigated for paranormal activity, with the team sensing spirits and finding cold spots, confirming suspicions held by staff and contractors.
"This event is one for only the bravest souls and those prepared to uncover the supernatural secrets within," Peek added. "Tickets are on sale and going fast, and there is only a limited capacity over the dates."
