The Nottingham-based, family-owned company is best known in the theme park world for the revival of Fantasy Island in Skegness, where Mellors oversaw a wave of ride installations, heavy re-theming and major events that helped return the Lincolnshire park to national attention.
Now the Group is turning its focus to Ripon.
A Park with “Real Heart and Potential”
Lightwater Valley first opened back in 1969 and today offers more than 35 rides, character entertainment and seasonal events, aimed mainly at children under 12. Mellors says that family-first approach will remain—but the experience will be widened so older guests can enjoy the day too.
Managing Director James Mellors admitted the purchase is personal for him:
“Lightwater Valley is a park with real heart, history, personality, and potential, and it’s a place our own family has loved since childhood. We’re incredibly proud to be taking on its future. Our goal is simple: to put the park back ‘on the map’ as a major theme park by introducing new rides, injecting new energy, and creating something truly special for families for many years to come.”
He added that the existing team have done a “brilliant job” and that Mellors Group will work closely with them as plans accelerate.
What Could 2026 Bring?
No specific rides have yet been named, but the press release confirms that new attractions are already scheduled to debut this year—suggesting work may begin almost immediately. Mellors Group brings in-house expertise across engineering, operations, theming, entertainment and large-scale event management, areas where Lightwater Valley has been quieter in recent seasons.
The acquisition also strengthens Mellors’ position as one of the UK’s fastest-growing attractions operators, with a focus on delivering affordable, high-quality days out.
A New Era Begins
For many UK fans, Lightwater Valley has long felt like a sleeping giant. While the park’s offering shifted towards younger families in recent years, Mellors’ comments about restoring its status as a “major theme park” will certainly raise eyebrows—and hopes.
Further details on redevelopment and the mystery 2026 additions are expected “in due course.” As always, ThemeParks-UK.com will bring updates as soon as they drop.
