Blackgang Chine has opened its newest family attraction, the Blackgang Express, welcoming park guests aboard just in time for the busy spring half term.
The gentle family train ride made its public debut on Saturday 23 May, coinciding with the launch of the parkβs annual Wild West Week event.
Situated behind Blackgang Beach, the new addition enhances an already popular area of the theme park that features family favourites such asΒ Shipwrecked, Waterforce, the Hall of Mirrors, and the Whale Room. The surrounding area has been developed to include a beautifully built station, extensive seating, and excellent seascape views, alongside refreshments from the nearby iScream parlour.
A Journey Through Park History
While the Blackgang Express is a new experience for visitors this season, the ride itself has a history that local theme park enthusiasts may recognise. The attraction is a completely refurbished and reimagined version of the former Cows Express, which previously operated at sister park Robin Hill.
The ride has been entirely stripped back, brought to life with a fresh new visual scheme, and given an entirely original theme that celebrates the heritage of Blackgang Chine. As the train journeys around the track, passengers travel through various scenes inspired by the park's long and colourful story, spotting dinosaurs, cavemen, and several other familiar characters from past attractions.
Family-Focused Investment
Designed to appeal to all generations, the Blackgang Express has a minimum height restriction of 90cm, making it an ideal introductory experience for younger children building their confidence on theme park rides.
Speaking about the opening, Dan White, General Manager at Blackgang Chine, said:
"We're thrilled to see the expansion of what is already a hugely popular area with the addition of the Blackgang Express."
The introduction of the ride forms part of an ongoing investment programme at the Isle of Wight attraction, aimed at refreshing classic areas while introducing new experiences.
Access to the Blackgang Express is included in the standard park admission price. Visitors looking to catch the ride alongside the western-themed entertainment of Wild West Week can do so until the event concludes on Saturday 30 May.
