M&D’s Theme Park Planning Expansion

North Lanarkshire Council has agreed to increase the land they lease to M&D's theme park at Strathclyde Country Park in Scotland.

This paves the way for an investment in the region of £3 million for hotel upgrades and over £1 million in creating events areas, and improving rides and landscaping in the theme park.

The proposals include space to accommodate a possible extension to the Alona Hotel, a new roller coaster, additional landscaping and events areas including an all-weather dome. The operators estimate an additional 90 full and part time permanent jobs will be created.

M&D’s aim to ‘create a first class, year-round attraction in Lanarkshire which would attract visitors from all over the UK’.

The planned expansion to the Alona Hotel would include 37 bedrooms and the addition of a spa and beauty treatment area.

The area covered by the existing lease is shown hatched on the plan below and extends to 6.36 hectares or thereby. The lease will be varied to include additional areas of ground shown shaded on the plan which extend to circa 11.97 hectares giving a total revised lease area of 18.33 hectares.

M&D’s are also increasing their marketing effort in Northern Ireland and the North of England and are already seeing a rise in visitors from further afield choosing to visit and stay.

The theme park features over 40 rides and attractions including AmazoniaThe Giant Condor, Tornado, Runaway Mine Train and Mad Mouse.
