Alton Towers to Reopen

Alton Towers theme park will re-open on Monday 8th June. Due to the ongoing investigation into the incident on The Smiler last Tuesday, X-Sector will remain closed until further notice, as will Sonic Spinball.

The theme park has been closed for five days since the crash in which 16 people were injured, four seriously.

X-Sector includes three rides, The Smiler, Oblivion and Enterprise. Sonic Spinball will also be closed until new safety protocols have been applied.

A prohibition notice has been served on The Smiler by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors, stopping its use "until action is taken to deal with the cause of the failure".

SAW - The Ride, another multi-car roller coaster manufactured by Gerstlauer which is at Thorpe Park, has also been shut "for the foreseeable future".

Dragon's Fury and Rattlesnake at Chessington World of Adventures are closed because the staff working on them require further training due to the new safety protocols, which have been introduced as an extra measure to reinforce their safe operation.
