Information about 2016 at Alton Towers

Alton Towers has announced their 2016 opening dates, some teasers about a new ride experience and a 3 year improvement scheme.

Following the previously confirmed return for The Smiler roller coaster, there will be a number of other changes for 2016 at the UK's number 1 theme park.

Opening Dates - The 2016 season at Alton Towers will be from 19th March - Sunday 6th November. The theme park will not be open on some midweek days during several quieter periods of the season; 19th - 27th April, 10th - 25th May, 6th September - 12th October and 1st - 4th November.  The theme park will not be opening for February Half Term in 2016. Scarefest will return in 2016 on selected dates; 8th - 9th, 15th - 16th and 21st - 31st October. Fireworks will mark the finale to the 2016 season on the 5th - 6th November, one less day than in previous years.

Towers Loving Care - In 2016 the park is introducing a new ‘Towers Loving Care’ 3 year improvement scheme, which will include repainting whole areas of the park, relaying paths, improving signage and complete redesigns or refurbishment of attractions. As part of this scheme there will be some changes to ride availability in 2016, with closures expected for Nemesis Sub-Terra, Hex, Ripsaw, The Flume, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Driving School.

Refresh for Air - Alton Towers is making improvements to Air for the 2016 season, plans include walls to enclose the station area and create pre-ride sections, a mid-queue photo opportunity, and 2 new themed elements for the ride. The Air Shop will be moving and an unusual new restaurant will be created. One of the new themed ride elements will be immediately before the lift ramp after the tunnel, forming a hole for the train to pass through. The other will be located in the plaza area. Teasers are calling it a "ground-breaking ride experience" and to "watch this space" for a “meteoric year” and an “out of this world season” so a new space theme looks likely.

Rollercoaster Restaurant - Above the Air station, the existing shop will be moved to a new extension on one side of the building, making room for the new Rollercoaster Restaurant, and another extension on the other side of the building will accommodate the kitchens and toilets. There are currently 8 of these restaurants in the world, one of which is called Food Loop and is located at Europa Park, the largest theme park in Germany. Tables have touch screens with which you can order food and drinks. A lift system transports food and drink up to tracks which then deliver them to the tables.
