Chessington World of Adventures launches a new ‘Mardi GRRRA!’ event this May half term

Chessington World of Adventures will bring the carnival spirit to May half term with their new ‘Mardi GRRRA!’ event.

Inspired by Mardi Gras in New Orleans, this family-friendly party event will run every day from Friday 27th May to Sunday 26th June and celebrates some of Chessington’s most iconic and spectacular species, in a jamboree of dance, music and entertainment taking place across the whole resort.

Guests visiting Chessington during the event will get to celebrate with their animal inspired and flamboyant Kreature Krewes, who will be found roaming high and low around every corner. From the High Flyers Krewe, where you need to look up to spot the feathered hoop aerialist, to the Stompede Krewe bringing lively drum beats that will have everyone moving, and not forgetting the Clawsome Krewe whose big cat ‘cha-cha’ dance will be the talk of the town. Finally, Elmer’s Colour Krewe will see the family favourite patchwork elephant, created by David McKee, hosting party dances where everyone’s included.

Over on the Mane Stage, the new ‘Carnival Spectacle’ show will bring families together as they enjoy a show led by The Jester, who will attempt to impress the Lion King and Lioness Queen. Make sure the whole family is ready for some bead throwing at the end.

It wouldn’t be a carnival without some mouth-watering food, as New Orleans and Mardi Gras inspired family favourites land on the menu of the existing restaurants and pop-up stalls open their hatches. These tasty new party food options include Po’ Boy sandwiches and King Cake inspired sweet treats, such as delicious cinnamon donuts topped with multicoloured festive icing.

Plus, thrill seekers can take on their latest jaw-dropping adventure, Croc Drop, and plunge 25m into the giant jaws of a crocodile, Sobek. Splashdown on log flume, Tiger Rock, then get behind the wheel in a colourful convey of trucks on Tiny Truckers, or float down a lazy river and meet family favourite characters along the way on The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure.

The fun doesn’t stop there as the zookeepers will also be getting involved with all the celebrations by hosting regular animal antics sessions, meet and greets and themed enrichment. Guests can explore the Zoo and encounter lions, tigers, gorillas and more, then dive into the SEA LIFE aquarium and embark on a journey through the ocean.
