Frightmare 2021 - review & photos

Frightmare is the south west's largest Halloween event and this year it's been revamped, with something new to experience in all 6 scare attractions.

Frightmare 2021

The long-running event has relocated to a different site within Over Farm, near Gloucester, so the organisers have taken the opportunity to update everything for 2021.

Alongside the main attractions, there are various roaming characters, an entertainment stage, and a lively courtyard with food, drink and merchandise.

SPOILER ALERT! Our review does include brief descriptions of the scare attractions and there are also photos from inside them.

  • CagedA sinister project saw scientific experiments become soldiers, warriors and killing machines. Now the elite want to use the subjects for entertainment, in fights to the death. What a way to start the night! The twisted inhabitants of this facility were giving it their all, absolutely relentless in chasing us down and coming at us from all directions.

  • The OfferingIt’s 2069 and the human race is as good as extinct, with just a few survivors remaining, just about living and waiting to die. Barely human, they act on instinct, practice rituals and preach abhorrence. The themed environments in this scare maze were some of the best we've seen, incredibly dramatic and detailed. After a daunting tunnel section and an impressive chamber scene, the dark and smoke filled passageways had us stumbling around in search of an escape.

  • Carnival - The Ringmaster spent years collecting their twisted exhibits and scouring the earth for frightful acts. Now they’ve done that, they’re losing control... It's the obligatory clown maze, but with some brilliant twists. Standout moments included a bearded lady, being squirted with water by a giggly clown and almost being knocked over by a giant balloon!

  • Wonderland - A disturbing vision of an alternative reality. Everything looks fine, but it’s not. Familiar, but strange. Wonderful, but wretched. Sweet, but bitter. Welcome to Wonderland 20/20. After putting on some special glasses, it's down the rabbit hole with Alice into a surreal world of optical illusions and terrifying versions of characters including the White Rabbit and Queen of Hearts. It's a psychedelic and disorientating experience that stands out from so many other scare attractions.

  • SéanceIt’s been 60 years since the infamous Séance at the Crest Mansion. 6 months since paranormal investigators tried to prove whether the house was indeed a gateway to darkness. 6 days since several villagers started acting strangely... VERY strangely. In the opening scene of this scare attraction each group gathers around the table, placing their hands on it and attempting to make contact with the spirit world. It's a great way to start the experience, before navigating the highly themed hallways and graveyard where there are multiple encounters with demonic creatures.

  • Haunted Hayride - This year the famous Haunted Hayride is celebrating over 20 years of thrilling visitors by bringing together many of the best scenes from over the years into one wild ride! At each of the many stopping points along the route there are a variety of scenes, some scary and others hilarious. We loved the outrageous adult humour! This is not just a Haunted Hayride though, as passengers are abandoned at a maize maze where there are a few extra surprises, and must then navigate the ruins of a derelict monastery. There is so much packed into this attraction that it's almost 3 in 1.

We left wondering how on earth it's taken us so long to get around to visiting Frightmare, as it's definitely one of the best scream parks in the UK!

We were guests of the event for the purposes of this review and were provided with special access for photography. Under normal circumstances photos and videos are not permitted.

Frightmare continues on selected dates until 31st October 2021. Don't miss out on this very special event, get your tickets now at www.frightmare.co.uk
