Opening of The Gruffalo at Chessington

The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure is now open at Chessington World of Adventures after a launch event that included a book signing with author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler.

The Gruffalo is one of the UK's best-loved children's book characters and the story has been magically brought to life through a series of impressive sets featuring animatronics, projections, screens and music with various added effects including lighting, smoke, smells, sounds and water fountains.

Kids and parents alike are able to join Mouse on a picturesque riverboat journey through the deep dark wood on The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure. As theme park goers float down the lazy river, the story of The Gruffalo magically unfolds in front of their eyes with exciting twists and turns along the way.

The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure is accompanied by several other Gruffalo additions, including four new Gruffalo themed rooms in the Chessington Safari Hotel, souvenirs and treats at The Gruffalo Gift Shop and The Gruffalo Bites, and character meet and greets with the Gruffalo himself at The Gruffalo Arena.

The new attraction replaces the Bubbleworks which closed in September 2016 and although it uses the same ride system, the rest has been completely transformed for this magical new experience.

At the Chessington Safari Hotel kids can play and stay in the safety of Mouse's treehouse, while adults relax in the comfort of the deep dark wood. There are also interactive elements, including a hidden door concealing a Gruffalo gift.

The Gruffalo previously appeared at Chessington World of Adventures as part of their Christmas event Chessington Winter’s Tail in 2014, performing in a live show followed by meet and greets afterwards.
