Chessington News

Chessington World of Adventures has now applied for full planning permission to re-develop part of the Mystic East area of the park including the addition of three new interconnected animal enclosures and a re-theme of the Dragon Falls log flume as Tiger Rock.

The park's two existing Sumatran Tigers will be re-located to the brand new purpose built animal enclosures, with four new Amur Tigers joining them.

The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure is now open at Chessington World of Adventures after a launch event that included a book signing with author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler.

The Gruffalo is one of the UK's best-loved children's book characters and the story has been magically brought to life through a series of impressive sets featuring animatronics, projections, screens and music with various added effects including lighting, smoke, smells, sounds and water fountains.

Chessington World of Adventures has now confirmed that The Gruffalo will be joining the theme park in 2017, which follows months of speculation and recent clues.

The Gruffalo, who's known as one of the UK's best-loved children's book characters, has recently been spotted at Chessington World of Adventures. Standing at a whopping seven feet tall, with purple prickles all over his back and a poisonous wart at the end of his nose, The Gruffalo has made quite the entrance at the park.

It's the end of an era as the iconic Bubbleworks ride at Chessington World of Adventures will be closing down on 6th September 2016.

The popular family ride has been running at the theme park for 26 years, enjoyed by 32 million people and completed more than 15 million circuits. Fans will get the chance to take a part in an auction to own a part of the attraction.

Chessington World of Adventures has begun a public consultation on their long term plan for the theme park, including a new family roller coaster, 45 safari-themed lodges, ride/animal attractions and infrastructure work.

The purpose of their emerging Long Term Plan is to guide planned investment over the next 5 to 10 years, with the aim of continuing to grow the resort as a short break destination and keep on attracting day visitors in a competitive market.
